SKILL 20: PROVIDES PERINEAL CARE (PERI-CARE) FOR FEMALE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. Introduce yourself and explain the procedure to the patient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Provide privacy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Perform hand hygiene<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Check water for safe temperature<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Raise one side rail of the bed after checking the patient’s mobility and their preferred side to lie on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Put on gloves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Raise the bed height if needed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Fill the basin with warm water and place it on a flat surface with a barrier underneath. Have the patient check the water temperature by placing their hand in the basin or putting a wet washcloth on the back of their hand.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Turn the patient or raise their hips and place a barrier (a towel, waterproof soaker pad, disposable pad, etc.) under their buttocks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Expose their perineum only.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Separate the labia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  12. Use water and a soapy washcloth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  13. Clean one side of the labia from top to bottom.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  14. Using a clean portion of the first washcloth, clean the other side of the labia from top to bottom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  15. Using a clean portion of the first washcloth, clean the perineal area from top to bottom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  16. Put the first washcloth in the linen bag.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  17. Using the second clean washcloth, rinse one side of the labia from top to bottom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  18. Using a clean portion of the second washcloth, rinse the other side of the labia from top to bottom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  19. Using a clean portion of the second washcloth, rinse the perineal area from top to bottom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  20. Put the second washcloth in the linen bag.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  21. Pat dry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  22. Assist the patient to turn onto their side facing away from the candidate and ask the patient to hold onto the raised side rail.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  23. Using the third clean washcloth, apply water and soap.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  24. Using a clean portion of the third washcloth, clean one side of the buttock, wiping away from perineal area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  25. Using a clean portion of the third washcloth, clean the other side of the buttock, wiping away from the perineal area.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  26. Using a clean portion of the third washcloth, clean the rectal area wiping away from the perineal area.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  27. Put the third washcloth in the linen bag.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  28. Using the fourth washcloth, rinse one side of the buttock wiping away from the perineal area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  29. Using a clean portion of the fourth washcloth, rinse the other side of the buttock wiping away from the perineal area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  30. Using a clean portion of the fourth washcloth, rinse the rectal area wiping away from perineal area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  31. Put the fourth washcloth in the linen bag.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  32. Pat dry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  33. Safely remove the waterproof pad from under the buttocks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  34. Remove the gloves, turning them inside out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  35. Perform hand hygiene.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  36. Position the patient on her back.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  37. Put on clean gloves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  38. Dispose of soiled linen in the designated laundry hamper.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  39. Ensure the bed is low and locked.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  40. Place the call light or signaling device within reach of the patient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
