SKILL 11: PERFORMS MODIFIED BED BATH TO FACE AND ONE ARM, HAND, AND UNDERARM<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. Introduce self and explain the procedure to the patient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Provide privacy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Perform hand hygiene.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Check water temperature for safety.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Fill the basin with warm water and place it on a flat surface with a barrier underneath. Have the patient check the water temperature by placing their hand in the basin or putting a wet washcloth on the back of their hand.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Raise the height of the bed to safe level.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Put on clean gloves<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Remove gown patient and place in designated hamper<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Cover patient with bath blanket or towel for privacy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Beginning with eyes, using a damp washcloth without soap, clean the eyes from inner to outer aspect using different sides of the washcloth.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Wash the face using a damp washcloth without soaps using different sides of the washcloth.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  12. Pat dry the face.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  13. Proceed to the arm, expose one arm and place dry towel underneath<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  14. Gather wet washcloth and apply soap.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  15. Clean the arm and pat dry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  16. Wash hands, fingers, and fingernails and pat dry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  17. Wash and clean underarm with soap and pat dry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  18. Dispose of the gown and used linens into the linen bag or laundry hamper.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  19. Assist the patient to put on a clean gown<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  20. While wearing gloves, empty the equipment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  21. Rinse the equipment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  22. Dry the basin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  23. Return the equipment to storage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  24. Dispose of soiled linen in the designated laundry hamper.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  25. Remove the gloves, turning them inside out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  26. Ensure the bed is low and locked.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  27. Place the call light or signaling device within reach of the patient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
