SKILL 5: CLEANS UPPER OR LOWER DENTURE with the patient<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. Introduce yourself and explain the procedure to the patient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Perform hand hygiene<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Put on gloves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Place all supplies on a barrier.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Place a clothing protector on the patient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Line the sink with a washcloth or paper towel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Ask the patient to remove dentures and place them in the cup.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Handle the dentures carefully to avoid damage or contamination.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Wet the denture brush and apply denture toothpaste if available. Water alone is acceptable to clean dentures if toothpaste is not available.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Thoroughly brush the inner, outer, and chewing surfaces of each denture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Rinse the dentures using clean, cool water and place them on a clean barrier or in an emesis basin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  12. Rinse the denture cup.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  13. Place the dentures in a rinsed cup.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  14. Put a denture cleansing tablet in the cup, if desired.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  15. Rinse the equipment (denture brush and emesis basin).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  16. Return the equipment to storage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  17. Discard the protective lining in an appropriate container.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  18. Remove the gloves, turning them inside out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
