SKILL 11: PERFORMS MODIFIED BED BATH TO FACE AND ONE ARM, HAND, AND UNDERARM
- Introduce self and explain the procedure to the patient.
- Provide privacy.
- Perform hand hygiene.
- Check water temperature for safety.
- Fill the basin with warm water and place it on a flat surface with a barrier underneath. Have the patient check the water temperature by placing their hand in the basin or putting a wet washcloth on the back of their hand.
- Raise the height of the bed to safe level.
- Put on clean gloves
- Remove gown patient and place in designated hamper
- Cover patient with bath blanket or towel for privacy.
- Beginning with eyes, using a damp washcloth without soap, clean the eyes from inner to outer aspect using different sides of the washcloth.
- Wash the face using a damp washcloth without soaps using different sides of the washcloth.
- Pat dry the face.
- Proceed to the arm, expose one arm and place dry towel underneath
- Gather wet washcloth and apply soap.
- Clean the arm and pat dry.
- Wash hands, fingers, and fingernails and pat dry.
- Wash and clean underarm with soap and pat dry.
- Dispose of the gown and used linens into the linen bag or laundry hamper.
- Assist the patient to put on a clean gown
- While wearing gloves, empty the equipment.
- Rinse the equipment.
- Dry the basin.
- Return the equipment to storage.
- Dispose of soiled linen in the designated laundry hamper.
- Remove the gloves, turning them inside out.
- Ensure the bed is low and locked.
- Place the call light or signaling device within reach of the patient.
- Perform hand hygiene
